Experts believe the animal-friendly tours are part of an em

n emerging trend that will benefit animal protection work in the long run.

The survey, released last week, found that more than 90 perce

nt of Chinese travelers who had participated in an overseas wildlife tour said they would take

into account whether their activities negatively affected the animals before making future tour decisions.

“Wildlife-friendly travel plays a crucial role in the healthy growth of wildlife tourism. The

research shows the responsibility that Chinese travelers would like to take, which is very enc

ouraging,” said Zhao Zhonghua, chief representative of the World Animal Protection China office.

The research was based on 2,206 questionnaires and jointly conducted by marketing com

pany CVSC-TNS Research and World Animal Protection-an international nonprofit animal welfare organization.

urged to avoid more damage to China tiesonly

Beijing urged Washington on Saturday “not to go too far” in harming China’s interest

s, and called for it to change course to avoid further damaging bilateral ties.

China firmly opposes the United States’ recent remarks and actions that harmed China’s interests, in

cluding its resorting to political means to suppress normal operations of Chinese companies, State Coun

cilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a phone call with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

History and reality show that China and the US both benefit f

rom cooperating with each other, while both suffer from bilate

ral conflicts, and cooperation is the only proper choice for the two major countries, Wang said.

The move fully demonstrates Beijing’s firm determinati

on to defend its due interests and legitimate rights in international trade and economic cooperation, according to analysts.

The US has totally ignored the fact that China has been eager to resolve trade and economic issues through high-level official ta

lks and pledged to further expand market access for global businesses, said Liang Ming, a senior resea

rcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation.

China has emphasized that the US should not use the tariff method. That is not just for China’s benefit; it is the rational choice a

ny country would make when facing unreasonable requests in trade, said Dong Yan, director of the inte

rnational trade office at the Institute of World Economics and Politics under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Liu said that at the level of trade representatives, both side

both sides have the sincerity to solve the existing problems.

“The purpose decides everything,” Liu said, in English. “China wants a very equal and dignif

ied deal, and under this premise, a good, cooperative deal,” he said. “I hope our US colleagues would understand this.”

Liu said he believed both sides have a strong desire to reach a deal. “We need to work hard tog

ether to surpass the temporary difficult period of time, and then we’ll have a bright future,” he said.

Asked by China Daily how China and the US could help world economic growth, whose p

rospects have been already compromised by the escalation of trade tensions between the two countries, Liu said co

operation serves the interests of the two sides and the whole world, while conflict hurts both.

“We have tremendous common interests and many commo

US soy farmers call for cool-down of trade tensions

US soy farmers have urged Washington to work for a positive solution to the current tarif

f dispute with the world’s top oilseed buyer China, and avoid further escalation of trade tensions.

In a statement released late Tuesday, the American Soybean Association (ASA) described the t

hreat by US President Donald Trump’s administration to increase the tariff rate from 10 percent to 25 p

ercent on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods as the “worst case” for US soybean growers.

“This is a predicament for soy growers,” said Davie Stephens, ASA president and a soybean farmer from Kentucky.

“With depressed (soybean) prices and unsold stocks fo

recast to double before the 2019 harvest begins in September, we nee

d the China market reopened to US soybean exports within weeks, not months or longer,” he added.
